LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A dog has shot his owner in Indiana.

Conservation officers in Kosciusko County, Indiana, say 25-year-old Allie Carter was hunting when she put her 12-gauge shotgun on the ground without the safety on. They believe her chocolate lab, named Trigger, stepped on the gun.

The gun fired and shot Carter in the foot.

"Believe it or not, getting shot while hunting is very rare," said Jonathon Boyd, an Indiana Conservation Officer. "But we do have a lot of rules out there to remind people how to be safe."

Officers say it's important to treat every gun like it's loaded: keep the safety on and always point it in a safe direction.
