LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A jury heard witness testimony Tuesday morning in the murder trial of a man accused of shooting and killing his estranged girlfriend in May 2014.

Louisville Metro Police officials say Shahied Ditto shot 25-year-old Crystal Parker, who was found dead inside her Shawnee apartment. He has since been charged with murder and burglary.

The couple had a history of domestic violence.

On May 19, 2014, all of that came to an end after police say Ditto broke into the apartment and shot Parker to death.

They say he then ran away, leaving their two young children alone with their mother's dead body. Police say they believe the two children watched the deadly assault.

Prosecutors called first responders to the witness stand Tuesday.

Sgt. Scott Beatty was a homicide detective at the time of the murder and processed the scene.

He testified that Ditto was acting nervous the day of the murder.

"I did find it strange he didn't try and check on his children. When he was explaining what led him up to showing up to that time right there, he continuously would look away at 42nd street," said Sgt. Beatty.

He also testified that the scene did not look like a normal burglary.

"When you first walked in, it would almost kind of appear that the room had been ransacked like somebody was looking for something but after being in there and kind of taking a step back and as we start looking at everything it almost appeared that if it was -- staged," Sgt. Beatty said.

Court documents later revealed Parker had requested a protective order against Ditto the day she was murdered.

Video shown in court Tuesday showed Parker's body on the stairs of the apartment's living room with a gunshot wound to the head.

Prosecutors are trying to prove Parker died in a domestic homicide at the hands of Ditto.

Defense attorneys argue someone else broke in and killed her over a drug deal.

The autopsy showed Parker had marijuana in her system, but doctors said that did not contribute to her death.

The trial will continue this week and the jury is expected to get the case by Friday.
