Police searching for 17-year-old girl missing since Monday

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police are looking for a 17-year-old girl who hasn't been seen since Monday afternoon.

LMPD activated "Operation Return Home" after the teen's family reported her missing.

Dana Gritton voluntarily entered a silver Ford Contour, Kansas License Plate of 246-ELQ, according to police.

The driver of that vehicle is believed to be a Latin male believed to be in his 20s, but police did not have a picture of him. He is described as medium build, approximately 5'5" and has a mustache.

The teen hasn't been seen since she left her Fern Creek home around 4 p.m. Monday.

The family says the teen met the man, who is from Missouri, on the Internet. When last seen she was wearing dark blue sweatpants with Valor Traditional Academy on them, and that she took her cat, Allie, with her.

The teen is described as being 5'5", weighing approximately 120 pounds with long blond hair and hazel eyes. She has a small scar on her right cheek near her mouth. Her family says she may be in grave danger.

"Operation Return Home" was created several years ago to supplement the Amber Alert system. In order for an Amber Alert to be issued, police must have a witness who observed an abduction, and a description of a vehicle or suspect. Police activate "Operation Return Home" when they don't have evidence that an abduction has taken police, but believe the person may be in danger.

If any contact is made with this vehicle, Dana Gritton or any occupant, please notify the LMPD at 574-LMPD.
