Security measures being taken as part of Breeders' Cup preparations

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Preparations are underway ahead of one of the biggest horse racing events in the world.

Breeders' Cup and Keeneland officials briefed the public Wednesday morning on changes that are in place for this weekend's events.

These include setting up a command center for emergency personnel, including state and city police, as well as tightened security for those entering the track.

"It's a different type of event for us on a security standpoint with the wanding and the soft bag checks and the ticketing processes that we have in place for Breeders' Cup that are different than a normal race day in Keeneland," said Vince Gabbert, the vice president of Keeneland.

Breeders' Cup officials began testing potential competitors in August to ensure none of the horses are on performance-enhancement drugs.
