CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WDRB) -- The University of Louisville basketball team has been picked to finish seventh in the Atlantic Coast Conference in a vote of the league's media present at Wednesday's ACC Media Day.

The Cardinals had nobody named to league's first- or second-team squads.

North Carolina, which tied with Kentucky in the No. 1 spot in the USA Today coaches' preseason poll, was voted the league favorite, and senior Marcus Paige was co-ACC preseason player of the year. Virginia was picked second, with Malcolm Brogdon also a co-player of the year. Defending national champion Duke, who has preseason freshman of the year Brandon Ingram, was picked third.

Notre Dame, Miami and Florida State follow those teams. After Louisville, in order, were N.C. State, Syracuse, Pitt, Wake Forest, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Boston College.

Louisville graduate transfer Damion Lee said the Cardinals will embrace the underdog role, and expected it. He said the Cardinals are a "mystery team."

"You can call us that," he said. "Nobody really knows anything about us. Trey (Lewis) and I have never played in this league. We've got a really good freshman class, but nobody knows about Donovan Mitchell or Ray Spalding or Deng Adel, or really any of the new guys. But I think we have a better team than people realize, we have a great attitude, and we have the best coach in the country. I think we can surprise some people, and I think if we work hard in practice and do what we're coached to do, we're a team that can keep improving and make a deep run."

The Cardinals open their exhibition season on Sunday when Bellarmine visits the KFC Yum! Center at 1:30 p.m.
