Two people burned in 'contained fire' at LG&E plant

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two people were injured in a workplace accident at the LG&E plant on Dixie Highway.

It happened around 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the LG&E Mill Creek Plant at 14660 Dixie Highway.

According to LG&E spokeswoman Natasha Collins, two contractors were injured in a contained fire while welding. We do not know the extent of their injuries and they have not been identified.

The fire was extinguished and the injured people were taken to the hospital for treatment. Collins says there was no threat to public safety.

An internal investigation is under way.

One woman whose boyfriend and brother-in-law work at the site, said the worst part was not knowing if her loved ones were okay.

"Even though I know he's safe, it's still going to make me cry," said Tammy Arthur. "I jumped up from work, told them I had to go, and I come out here. I've been trying to call them and everything, but they have a no-phone policy at LG&E, so they can't take their phones in with them. So his is turned off. They can’t get ahold of him."

Arthur was eventually able to confirm with University Hospital that her boyfriend and brother-in-law were not among those injured.
