LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man has been acquitted of a murder charge in the shooting death of his 25-year-old girlfriend with her two young children nearby.

Shahied Ditto, 33, was charged with the murder of Crystal Parker, who was gunned down in her Shawnee Gardens apartment in May of 2014.

Police had charged Shahied Ditto with murder and burglary. The jury deliberated for over five hours and found Ditto not guilty on both charges.

"He sat there for six hours and talked at length with detectives about what happened. He told them the truth. What he said consistently was I didn't do this," defense attorney J. Clark Baird said in his closing statement.

The jury has been hearing testimony all week, including from the victim's 5-year-old daughter who was home at the time of the murder.

"Shahied killed my Mama," the daughter said in court. "I heard one shot and I heard them arguing."

"The proof has shown that he had the motive and opportunity to intentionally kill Crystal and his intent is clear from that single gunshot wound to the head," prosecutor Christie foster said in a closing statement.
