Four Metro Council members want to name new downtown bridge after monk

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Some Louisville officials want to name the new downtown bridge after a monk.

Four Metro Council members sent a letter to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Thursday, asking for the bridge to be named after Thomas Merton. Merton was an American Catholic writer and Trappist monk at the Abbey of Gethsemani in Nelson County.

Other suggestions for the bridge name include Abraham Lincoln, Muhammad Ali and Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis.
