LEXINGTON, Ky. (WDRB) -- The biggest horse racing event in the world began Friday at Keeneland.

This is the first time the track has hosted the Breeder's Cup.

About 45,000 people from all over the world were expected at Friday's races alone. Some were getting a look at Keeneland for the first time.

"It's a really, really nice track -- very, sort of cozy," racing fan Brett Degale said. "The other tracks we've been to, very, very spread out. But it's beautiful here."

The biggest race, the Breeders' Cup Classic, will take place Saturday evening.

American Pharoah will be up against eight competitors. He's the first Triple Crown winner to be part of the event.
