American Pharoah wins Breeders' Cup Classic in final career race
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - American Pharoah won the Breeders' Cup Classic at Keeneland in Lexington on Saturday in what will likely be his final race.
The Triple Crown winner did what no other did before him, as the Breeders' Cup wasn't founded when Affirmed last one the Triple Crown in 1978.
Pharoah went to the front of the pack right out of the gate and held it all the way, stretching out to a five-length victory.
He finished with a time of 2:00:07 for the 1 1/4-mile race, nearly three seconds faster than his time from the same distance in the Kentucky Derby.
Pharoah's time broke the Keeneland track record by more than five seconds for that distance.
Effinex finished second and Honor Code finished third.
