LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- City leaders cut the ribbon Saturday at New Albany City Square on Market Street.

Organizers say the farmers market started with three vendors 12 years ago.

Now with the recent expansion it averages 60 to 70 in the summer and 600-1,000 shoppers every weekend.

"I think it's just fabulous to be able to know who grew my food," Susan Kaempfer said. "I have a business a block away, my house is seven blocks away, so I can walk here if I want to and many people do that. We have it open for people who have pets to come by and we have vendors that sell pet things."

This location provides double the venue space of the previous Farmers Market.

It also has improved utilities, drainage and lighting.
