NAPD: Social media threats against Floyd County Schools not viable

Posted: Updated:

NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WDRB) -- Some Floyd county parents are confused after the school district sent out a message Wednesday telling them the latest school threat was not credible.

“This message is going to our parents and staff about threats that have been made on social media to our schools,” said the message, recorded by Bill Briscoe, assistant to the superintendent.

The message was left on the phones of Floyd County parents Wednesday morning. It came after threats were made on social media but details about those threats have not been made available.

But it left parents wondering what exactly lead to the warning.

“My first reaction was it was an old message that got replayed because we had had issues with this back in September and I had no idea we had another threat,” said Kate Caufield, a Floyd County parent.

Caufield has two children in Floyd County schools.

She says there seems to be more questions than answers regarding any threats that have been made.

Back in September, threats were made by a hacker on social media.

"From what I can tell, the same young lady who was hacked before was hacked again but by someone else,” explained Caufield.

In the message, Briscoe read a statement from New Albany Police Chief Todd Bailey.

“We strongly believe these threats are originating out of state and there is no viable threat to any school in our corporation,” he said.

Chief Bailey was not available to answer questions on camera but said in a statement they will continue to investigate the threats.

If you see suspicious activity online or in person you're encouraged to call police.
