1,200 Clark Co. residents without water

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Faucets are dry. Toilets won't flush. Hoses aren't working.

Some southern Indiana residents had to "rough it" without water on Friday.

"I got up about 15 minutes until 6 a.m. this morning, went in to brush my teeth and turned the faucet on, no water so I just used mouth wash,” said Rick Mullins, Jeffersonville resident.

Mullins lives in rural Jeffersonville. His family was using water bottles during the outage. But he said that didn't fill every void.

"Take a shower. That's number one,” he told WDRB.

Mullins wasn't alone.

About 1,200 Clark County households were without water because of a water main break.

Officials say it happened sometime late Thursday night or early Friday morning.

A pipe near Utica Sellersburg Road and Keystone Blvd busted.

It took crews hours to find the break and even longer to fix it.

Watson Water Company had this message for customers:

“We are currently experiencing an interruption for some of our customers. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience."

Being without water was not only an inconvenience. It was a safety concern for some residents because fire hydrants don’t work when water is out. An official with the Jeffersonville Fire Department says they use tanker trucks for backup purposes.

Residents without water or who have low water pressure are encouraged to boil their water for at least 72 hours.

"I won't use it for five days at least I just feel that way. They say three days but then we'll be very careful what we use it for,” said Mullins.

UPDATE: Watson Water Co. officials told WDRB they expect all customers' water to be restored by 10 p.m. Friday night.
