LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Beautifying the streets of Louisville was the goal of a community-wide planting event Saturday along West Broadway from 20th Street to the end at Shawnee Park.

The Brightside Organization, Nature Conservancy, UPS and Brown-Forman partnered to plant 150 trees in the area.

Volunteers spent five hours digging and planting, all to make this corridor more beautiful.

"Trees are incredible," said Erin Thompson, Urban Forester for the city of Louisville. "The benefits are insurmountable, and I encourage everyone to become a participant and plant a tree in their own yard."

This is the second community-wide planting event.

The "One Bright City" initiative launched last year to help teach Louisville residents how to better care for the environment.
