100 young women honored as 'champions' for excellence in academics and conduct

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One-hundred young women from the Louisville area were recognized Saturday for excelling in academics and conduct.

Known as "Champions," the honorees are part of the IBC Education and Mentorship Program. IBC stands for Inner Beauty Clinic.

The goal is to honor girls who are doing well in and out of school and also encourage them on their educational journey.

"I grew up in the housing projects in Sheppar Square," said the program's founder, Nicole Griffin. "I was around a lot of drugs, a lot of things that were not conducive to growing up and being a productive citizen, and so I know how girls can lose.

"What this program does is give girls 1,000 ways to win. That's our motto. We give girls 1,000 ways to win in life, in school, at home and in their own personal lives."

The girls also received school supplies, learning tools, hygiene bags and certificates.
