CLARKSVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- The bridge crossing Mill Creek in western Clarksville will reopen Tuesday morning after town engineers found the once-crumbling river bank near the bridge is "stable and not at risk of immediate failure."

The bridge had been closed for months because of a deteriorating shore along the Ohio River and west of the bridge. Town crews anticipate opening the road by 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to a town news release. It connects Harrison Avenue, the state park boat ramp and George Rogers Clark home site with Brown Station Way.

"There continues to be concern about the long-term stabilization of the road and the town will continue to monitor the situation closely for any additional signs of failure," said Brittany Montgomery, the town's utility and capital projects coordinator, in the release.

The town council should hear a report on the shore and the bridge at its next meeting Nov. 16.
