LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man is facing several felony charges after police say they found two dead dogs in his home and a third dog close to death.

According to an arrest warrant, Louisville Metro Animal Services received a complaint in September that three dogs had been left abandoned in William Brown's home on St. Xavier Street in Portland. On Sept. 22, abandonment notices were left on Brown's doors. On Sept. 24, the warrant states the notices were checked; the dogs were heard barking inside, and a search warrant was issued.

On Sept.25, only one dog could be heard barking inside. That's when LMPD was called and the search warrant was executed.

According to the arrest warrant, "once inside the residence, two of the dogs were found already deceased." Police say the surviving dog was lying between the two dead dogs.

The surviving dog, which was covered in feces and urine, was taken to Louisville Metro Animal Services and treated for malnutrition. It was later determined that the other dogs died from malnutrition.

Police say Brown admitted that he owned all three dogs, and that he left the dogs in a cage while he was out of town. Brown told police "someone was supposed to be caring for the dogs but that he was unable to contact them while he was out of town."

According to police, Brown admitted he had not fed the dogs for at least a week.

Brown was arrested on Nov. 9 and charged with several felonies, including cruelty to animals, and torture of a dog or cat resulting in serious physical injury or death.
