UPDATE: Man shot and killed on Dixie Highway near I-265 identified, investigation continues
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One man is dead after a shooting on Dixie Highway near Dixie Garden Drive.
MetroSafe got reports of a man shot around 7:30 p.m.at 10701 Dixie Highway just north of the Gene Snyder Freeway.
Police say 48-year-old Alton David Crockett was found in the Taco Bell parking lot shot to death. The coroner's office says Crockett was pronounced dead at the scene of a gunshot wound, however, "the number of gunshot wounds and locations will not be released at this time due to ongoing police investigation."
Investigators say the person who shot him took off. Officers are trying to figure out if the people involved were eating at the restaurant, if they knew each other or got into a fight in the parking lot.
“It’s still very early in the investigation. So they’re attempting to piece that together and determine exactly what transpired. You know, it’s kind of a populated area…so they’re hoping to get further information from anyone that has that,” LMPD Sgt. Phil Russel said.
The homicide unit has been speaking with possible witnesses at Taco Bell and Kroger nearby. Officers also said they would be looking for security footage from businesses in the area.
Crockett's funeral arrangements are being made at Parrott-Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville, Ky.
UPDATE: The Jefferson County Coroner's Office has identified the victim as Alton David Crockett, 48, of Louisville. The story has been updated to reflect that.
