LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man has been arrested after police say he shot a man twice, just a few feet away from a woman and her child.

According to an arrest report, it happened on Oct, 31, just before 9 p.m., on E. St. Catherine Street, near S. Floyd Street.

Police say 36-year-old Andre Steadmon got into an argument with the victim. During the argument, Steadmon allegedly pulled out a 9mm handgun and shot the man once in his stomach.

When the victim fell to the ground, police say Steadmon stood over him and shot him one more time, saying "I oughtta kill you now."

Police say that at the time of the shootings, the victim's girlfriend and her child were less than 15 feet away from the shots.

According to the arrest report, the victim suffered injuries requiring surgery.

Someone was eventually able to identify Steadmon as the shooter from a series of photos.

Steadmon, who is a convicted felon, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon. He is charged with first degree assault, two counts of wanton endangerment and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
