Police investigating robbery of credit union in eastern Jefferson County

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A busy day for police - who also updated us on the search for a bank robber, who locked employees in the vault.

Rachel Collier explains the other disturbing move the suspect made.

Police say the man was hiding in some bushes outside of the bank--waiting for employees to arrive this morning....went in...and held them at gunpoint.

"Actually put them in the vault," said Louisville Metro Police spokesman Dwight Mitchell. "They were able to get out, no one was hurt, but he did get away with an undetermined amount of cash."

It happened at 8 a.m. Friday at the Jefferson County Credit Union on Ormsby Station Road. It's in east Louisville, near the intersection of New La Grange Road and Whipps Mill Road.

Police say a man hid in bushes and waited for workers to get there. He eventually got into the bank, armed with a gun, and put three employees inside the bank vault. He left the bank with cash, in an unknown direction. It's not clear if he drove off or ran away.

Police know it's a man, but can't determine his race. He was masked and his body was covered up.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call the police tipline at (502) 574-LMPD.
