LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Amid a multitude of international responses to terror attacks in Paris last Friday night, Kentucky lawmakers released statements regarding the issues Monday.

After U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) released a statement saying he would propose legislation restricting refugees from coming to the United States, Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear and Governor-Elect Matt Bevin each released statements regarding the tragedy and the future of Syrian refugees in Kentucky.

Governor-Elect Bevin backed a “vigilant” approach in blocking Syrian refugees pending a review of “risks to our citizens.”

"The recent terrorist attacks in Paris serve as a warning to the entire civilized world that we must remain vigilant,” he said in a written statement.  “This is why I am joining with other governors across the country in opposing the resettlement of Syrian nationals until we can better determine the full extent of any risks to our citizens."

Governor Steve Beshear tweeted a statement Monday evening. Beshear backed offering help to those in need – noting that many refugees “are women [and] children and people who are in desperate need.”
