LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Thirty-five college basketball programs are represented with players on the pre-season watch list of 50 guys for the John Wooden player of the year award.

Kansas, Duke, North Carolina, Michigan State, the usual suspects.

Two programs have three players on the list.

One is Kentucky, represented by sophomore Tyler Ulis as well as freshmen Skal Labissiere and Jamal Murray.

The other is Indiana, represented by a senior (guard Yogi Ferrell), a junior (Troy Williams) and a sophomore (James Blackmon Jr.).

John Calipari and Tom Crean are friends -- and now they share this item.

Louisville did not have a player voted onto the Top 50 although the Atlantic Coast Conference is represented by nine guys – two from Duke, North Carolina and Virginia, all Top 10 teams.

The Big Ten has the most recognized players (10) while the Southeastern and Big 12 conferences have seven.

Three Wooden all-Americans from last season were also recognized – Wichita State guard Ron Baker; Virginia wing Malcolm Brogdon and former Kentucky forward Kyle Wiltjer, who plays for Gonzaga. Wiltjer, LSU freshman Ben Simmons, Labissiere, Duke's Brandon Ingram and Melo Trimble of Maryland are considered the frontrunners.

Murray and Labissiere are two of seven freshmen recognized while Ferrell is one of 25 seniors.
