LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A former Kentucky State Police trooper accused of having sex with a 15-year-old girl will not serve jail time.
Stratford Young was sentenced to five years probation Thursday in Meade Circuit Court.
Originally charged with rape, Young took a plea deal for lesser charges: three counts of unlawful transaction with a minor. As part of the plea deal, he is forbidden from working with juveniles.
He was also ordered to pay a $1,000 fine. If he breaks the deal, he faces two years behind bars.
"We were satisfied that he didn't actually go into the prison population," said Kenton Smith, Young's attorney. "We feel like his welfare would be in danger and he'd be a security risk given his past history."
The sex scandal with Young sparked a massive investigation that ended with four officers resigning or being fired.
