LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Your family could be due $2,500 or more.

The Louisville Urban League is partnering with the Louisville Asset Building coalition. The two organizations are looking for volunteers during the upcoming tax preparation season. It begins in January.

"And we are trying to recruit volunteers to help with tax preparation. There are about 70-thousand people in our community who qualify for the earned income tax credit and to be able to serve as many of them as possible," said Sadiqa Reynolds, president and CEO of the Urban League.

Reynolds said every year families leave money on the table at tax time.

She said, with additional volunteer support, LUL and LABC will be able to serve more families and children who qualify for Earned Income Tax Credit -- a federal tax credit that is available to low-to moderate income working families.

Training for volunteers will be provided through an IRS online program that can be completed independently. There will also be face to face training.

"You don't have to be a CPA, you don't have to be at the top of your class in math. There will be training, everyone will be trained, you will be qualified by the end of that training," Reynolds said.

The training starts in December.
