LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- From controversy to reconciliation: on Friday UofL President Dr. James Ramsey made good on a promise to take action after his controversial Halloween picture.

Dr. Ramsey was one of several speakers at what was called a "reconciliation assembly" at Strickler Hall on campus. Afterward, he continued to be very remorseful about what caused all of this.

"I hurt people," Ramsey said. "And I hurt students, and as I said, that's why we're here is for our students, so I can't ever purposely go out and hurt someone, and I did that."

Ramsey and Dr. Ricky Jones, the Chairman of Pan African Studies at U of L sat down with us after the meeting with students. Both agree it's time for the negativity surrounding Ramsey for the controversial Halloween photo to transition to reconciliation.

Last month, Ramsey and staff members came under fire after posing for a picture wearing sombreros and ponchos. Friday's reconciliation assembly was aimed at putting a stop to any remaining campus unrest.

"People make mistakes -- the president made a mistake," Jones said. "So you forgive that and you move forward when people are contrite. And he's been incredibly contrite. He's done a whole lot more good than bad. That doesn't mean we toss the mistake out the window but it means that we put it in proper perspective, and that's what we're trying to do. I think he is a good man. He's a good man, he's a good leader, and he's a good friend."

During the assembly, Ramsey's voice trembled as he said he has prayed for forgiveness and guidance. Meanwhile, Jones said the feedback from students who attended the assembly has been positive.
