LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Meat isn't too hard to find in Butchertown, but a high end restaurant is not as common. People who came to the Butchertown Grocery's soft opening Friday were pleasantly surprised.
A grocery store turned upscale restaurant is not officially open for business, but the owner says it's a great opportunity to get all of the kinks out and get ready for the grand opening.
"Not a lot of people think to come down here and have a nice, classy restaurant so I think it's wonderful," Mindy Farnsley said.
The building was a grocery back in the 1800s and the transformation seems to be adding to the overall dining experience. The back of the house is a little more chaotic.
"It's a soft opening," owner Bobby Benjamin said. "It's kind of crazy busy and we're working a lot of the kinks out now before people actually have to pay for their food. It's been interesting. People are enjoying the food. We're still working on the service a little bit."
The lively cocktail bar offers an array of drinks and, of course, a Bourbon selection. Upstairs, there's enough room for private events and live music.
It's a breath of fresh air for the Butchertown neighborhood and a new restaurant option for foodies in Louisville.
The grand opening for Butchertown Grocery is Wednesday, Nov. 25.
