Louisville Metro Police officers help provide Thanksgiving meals to families in need

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Some of Louisville's finest helped provide Thanksgiving meals for some of the city's neediest.

On Monday, the Mobile Ninth Division partnered with Kentucky Harvest to supply turkeys and canned goods for 100 families.

Dozens of officers helped sort and load the meals for delivery.

"We're trying to do everything that we can to let the community know that we're more than just a gun and a badge," said Det. Vadim Dale of the Ninth Mobile Division.

"This is a great way for the community to know that the police are here to serve us. These guys took out of their busy schedule. They brought all this food and helped us unload and because of all their work, a lot of families are going to have a Thanksgiving meal this year," said Markham French, a spokesperson for the Plymouth Community Renewal Center.

The recipients were chosen through the Plymouth Community Renewal Center, which helps educate and employ young African-American men.
