LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The man accused of raping and killing a 7-year-old Scottsville, Kentucky girl faced a judge Monday and pleaded not guilty.

The arraignment was at the Allen County courthouse and will likely be just the beginning of a very long court process for Timothy Madden.

The 38-year-old was arrested Friday and is accused of raping, sodomizing and murdering Gabbi Doolin.

Doolin was found dead Nov. 14 during a football game at Allen County High School.

Those who live in and around the small town of Scottsville are devastated.

"It's a really sad thing because you've got a precious little 7-year-old girl at a football game and you wouldn't think something like that would take place at something like that," Shawn Spears said. "It's hurt me in my heart. I've been crying. It's just torn me all to pieces."

In a jailhouse interview, Madden told us he's innocent, but according to documents, his DNA was found on the victim.

Madden appeared in front of Allen County District Judge Martha Blair Harrison Monday afternoon, who entered a plea of not guilty.

“Simply put, we do not know what the evidence is that the commonwealth believes they have,” Madden’s attorney Travis Lock said. “What we do know is that we have the best system of justice on planet earth."

Doolin's parents were emotional in court.

"We here in Scottsville loved that little girl and we stand behind the parents anyway we can and our heart goes out to them," Spears said. "[Madden] needs to be convicted and I think the death penalty needs to be imposed."

Madden's bail remains at $1 million full cash.
