LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The 25th annual YMCA Mayor's Community Thanksgiving Breakfast was held Tuesday morning, and Mayor Greg Fischer used part of his time there to address the Syrian refugee crisis and promote a rally he's leading tonight at 6 p.m. to show the city's solidarity with victims of recent terrorist attacks and welcome immigrants.

"We can't give into the terrorists that want us to be somebody we're not - in other words reject people," Fischer said. "We have to say we will be safe but we will also bring people into our country that respect our values, that arrive here safely. That is what the American story is all about."

Also at the breakfast, the YMCA of Greater Louisville announced it will merge with the Southern Indiana branch. The merger takes effect Jan. 1st.
