Local non-profit helps provide meals to area families

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Hundreds of people lined up for a free Thanksgiving meal.

A line stretched around the corner at the Parkland Boys and Girls Club on Tuesday.

The non-profit Feed the City, along with the help of UPS and River City Bank, is providing up to 400 families with everything they need for a Thanksgiving feast.

People spent hours Tuesday loading baskets with turkeys, fruit, rolls and vegetables.

"Family is the most important unit on the face of the earth and most of them really appreciate us giving them all the fixings, so they'll be able to go home and have a Thanksgiving meal," said Larry D. Coleman, a spokesperson for Feed the City.

The event ended at 2 p.m., but Feed the City doesn't just offer help on Thanksgiving.

It feeds the hungry one meal every day and is always looking for volunteers to help.
