LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One person was killed in a single-vehicle crash on I-64W near the Georgetown exit early Thursday.

According Floyd County Sheriff Frank Loop, it happened around 5 a.m. That's when the driver of a UPS tractor-trailer left the road, struck a light pole and burst into flames.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not immediately released.

According to Loop, "Two UPS semis had left the Louisville terminal, (and) were traveling westbound and talking to each other on the radio. One driver failed to respond to a question. The other driver asked him why he was taking the exit, and he looked back and saw the truck hit the pole. He stopped his truck and ran back there, but by then the truck was already engulfed in flames."

Loop was unable to confirm if the driver suffered from a medical condition before crashing.

The Georgetown exit and right two lanes were closed for several hours while crews worked to clear the scene.
