LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police in Jeffersonville say they have identified a suspect in a hit and run case that left two people hospitalized Wednesday afternoon.

It happened around 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 25. That's when police say a man driving an SUV hit a woman and a 13-year-old girl near the Big Four bridge.

"I seen the little girl that got hit," said one witness. "She flew up in the air about 20 feet, and I just immediately ran over there...told my buddy to call 911, and I was over there holding her."

The 13-year-old was taken to Kosair Children’s hospital and is in stable condition, while the woman was taken to University Hospital and is stable after surgery, according to police.

According to a news release from Jeffersonville police, investigators reviewed surveillance video and determined the vehicle that the vehicle involved was a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer. Police say they spoke with the vehicle's owner, who told them a family member was driving the SUV.

Police have not released the suspect's identity to the public, and say he has not yet surrendered. Police say they are issuing warrants for his arrest. The driver will be charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing serious bodily injury.

Police also expressed gratitude for the bystanders who provided assistance for the victims until first responders could arrive.
