LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say a suspect tried to assault a man with a sword on Thanksgiving night -- but the victim also had a weapon.
According to an arrest report, the incident took place on Ramona Lane, near the intersection of Amrona Avenue and Valley Station Road, just before 11:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Police say that, according to the victim, 23-year-old James Nichols got into an argument with him and, "came at him with a sword."
That's when, police say, the victim pulled a gun.
The victim allegedly told officers that he was able to get the sword away from Nichols, but that didn't deter him. According to the arrest report, Nichols got a second sword -- and hit the victim with it.
At this point, police say the victim told them that the two struggled for control of the sword -- and the victim ended up on top of Nichols. Police say the victim hit Nichols several times -- and Nichols head-butted him several times.
When police arrived, they say the victim was still on top of Nichols.
Nichols was arrested and charged with fourth degree Assault, according to the arrest report.
