LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Former University of Louisville standout Kyle Kuric is set to begin the road to recovery from a month-long brain tumor ordeal after a successful third surgery.

This surgery, to insert a plate in his head to protect a portion of his skull that was removed to alleviate swelling following brain surgery on Nov. 5, had been scheduled previously and was delayed last week. On Monday, his mother, Judi, posted an update on Facebook:

"Surgery is done and went well. Kyle will spend the night in ICU for observation. He will remain hospitalized for the next few days for close monitoring. Thank you all for your continued prayers. Blessings to you all."

Kuric’s original surgery was to remove a benign tumor threatening his central nervous system. He spoke to a U of L basketball crowd via Skype at the KFC Yum! Center on Nov. 21, telling fans that he hopes to be back on the basketball court for his Herbalife Gran Canaria team within weeks after this final surgery.
