LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two 101st Airborne Division pilots were killed in a helicopter crash near Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

It happened around 7 o'clock Wednesday evening. The crew members were flying a two-seat AH-64D Apache during a routine training mission when the aircraft crashed about 12 miles south of the post, according to a press release. The crash site is in Montgomery County, Tenn., near the Cumberland River.

Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency Director Jerry Buchanan told The Tennessean newspaper the helicopter was found in a river bottom and was on fire when first responders arrived.

The cause of the crash has not been determined and is being investigated by the U.S. Army Combat Readiness Center.

Fort Campbell is located on the Kentucky-Tennessee border, about 60 miles northwest of Nashville.
