Indiana AG warns the public to watch out for holiday scams

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Indiana's Attorney General wants you to be on the lookout for scams.

Greg Zoeller says the holidays are the perfect time for criminals to prey on shoppers, so as you continue shopping, Zoeller says think about this.

"Particularly when it comes to solicitations that come to you," Zoeller said. "When they call you on the phone right away, you know that's a red flag. When you see it pop up on your email or your screen, those have to be carefully screened. And you always want to initiate the conversation. You make a call back, you never want to take a phone call."

Zoeller says you may want to consider using credit cards because it's an insured transaction. Cash and debit cards are not.

Zoeller recently launched the Freeze Identity Thieves campaign. Hoosiers can sign up for a free credit freeze as the best protection against identity theft.
