Governor-Elect Matt Bevin names Hal Heiner as Ky. Education Secretary

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A former Louisville Metro Council member and gubernatorial candidate has been named Kentucky's newest Education Secretary. 

On Friday morning, Governor-Elect Matt Bevin announced that Hal Heiner will fill the cabinet seat. The two Republicans ran against each other in the primary. 

Heiner's official title will be Secretary of the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.

Bevin says he chose Heiner because he's a, "businessman with a passion for education and public service."

Heiner was a Louisville councilman for eight years.
