Families in need "Shop with a Hero" before Christmas

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Most children love getting Christmas presents but sometimes their life circumstances make it difficult.

That's where the "Shop with a Hero" program comes in. Families in need are paired with a member of the military, a firefighter, police officer, or someone from the medical field.

Then they shop for Christmas gifts that they might not be able to afford on their own.

Volunteers walked with the families on Saturday through the Kohl's on Preston Highway helping the kids pick out $75 worth of merchandise.

"That feeling you get when you see someone - you give them something that they totally didn't expect and just the gratitude and the excitement on their faces, it's enough right there," said volunteer Kelly Potter.

Valley View Church has hosted the event for eight years now and it’s made possible through donations.
