Donation drive supports homeless veterans transitioning into new apartments

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Furnishing a brand new apartment is never easy, especially if you're a homeless veteran transitioning from living on the streets.

“Every year there are homeless veterans who are here in Louisville that get placed into apartments, the problem is because they've been homeless they really don't have anything that would be required to set up a homestead," said Robert Soice with the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association.

The CVMA is asking for donations of things like bowls and spoons, bedding, clothing, even furniture as part of its "Support a Vet Transition Kit Drive".

On Saturday, CVMA members collected basic household items, cleaning supplies, and toiletries.

The event will also take place on Saturday, Dec. 12 at Bluegrass Harley Davidson in Louisville and USA Cares in Radcliff.

The completed kits will then be handed out to homeless veterans as they transition into their new homes.

If you can't make it to either site next weekend you can also donate online by clicking here for the group’s GoFundMe page.
