LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Metro Police say a man has died after he was hit by a vehicle.

LMPD spokesperson Alicia Smiley says First Division Officers responded to a report of a hit and run at Griffiths Avenue and South 25th Street.

Officials say they received a call about the accident Sunday morning just before 4 a.m.

Cory Russell Starrett, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:33 a.m. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office says Starrett died of multiple blunt force injuries.

"We heard the boom, thought maybe somebody had hit my car," said Jamie Barnett, who says he was the first person to find Starrett.

"I never thought I would come out and see what I found ... I feel sorry for his family."

After being questioned by the LMPD Traffic Unit, 26-year-old Charles Ballard was arrested Sunday, charged with leaving the scene of an accident, no insurance or operator's license in possession, DUI and murder.

According to his arrest report, Ballard's PBT on scene showed a 0.127 alcohol level.

Smiley says no one else was hurt.
