LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies helped 60 local kids in need for clothing Sunday.

It's part of the annual Shop with a Deputy event, and about 40 officers and other volunteers participated.

Every year, the Deputy Sheriff's FOP lodge holds several fundraisers to raise money for the program.

Almost $20,000 was raised this year.

After shopping, the kids opened presents and got to visit Santa.

"It's a good experience because you see ... smiles on the kids' faces," said Sgt. Vernon Brown with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. "It gives them the opportunity to have some nice clothing, toys, and be able to see what the Christmas spirit is all about and what the giving spirit is all about."

The FOP President says the program has been in place for about 25 years.
