Officials say the child was taken to Kosair Children's Hospital.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police have arrested a woman authorities say threw her daughter on the ground.
Brittany Smith, 24, was arrested Sunday evening at her home in the 3500 block of West Broadway, which is near South 35th Street, according to the official police report.
Officials say Smith allegedly threw her 10-month-old daughter outside on the ground. As a result, the child hit the back of her head, according to police.
Police say a witness responded after hearing "noise and the baby crying."
Investigators say a witness stated he observed the baby "crawling back into the house from the front porch where witness 1 said she was thrown."
Police records state a witness admitted to hitting Smith and "holding her back from the baby after the baby was thrown."
Officials say the child was taken to Kosair Children's Hospital. There is no word on the child's current condition.
Smith is charged with assault.
She is being held at Louisville Metro Corrections and is expected to appear in court on Monday.
