LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's a new way to transport food to needy people in Louisville.

Ford Motor Company donated a new Transit Connect cargo van to the Dare to Care Food Bank Tuesday morning.

Dare to Care will use the new Transit Connect to pick up food and deliver meals to recipients.

"Today is a great day. The Ford family has stepped up once again and demonstrated their partnership with Dare to Care in ending hunger in our community," said Dare to Care Executive Director Brian Riendeau.

"Ford is donating a brand new transit van to us today, which we will put to use delivering food around the community. Just as important as the vehicle, the Ford dealers have stepped up and contributed funds which they have raised which will allow us to fill this vehicle five times with fresh fruits, vegetables and shelf stable products."

Dare to Care worked with over 300 agencies to provide over 15 million meals to needy Kentuckians and Hoosiers in the previous year.

The Transit Connect cargo van is capable of transporting 1,470 pounds or 1,100 meals per trip and is valued at more than $22,000.

Riendeau says this is the third vehicle Ford has donated within the past six years.
