LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Authorities say an off-duty police officer helped stop a robbery in progress at a Kentuckiana fast-food restaurant.

The incident happened  Sunday evening at the KFC on Old State Road 60 in Sellersburg, according to officials.

Police say, the suspect, Charlie Johnson was sitting inside, drinking beer when she pulled a box cutter and knife from her purse and threatened employees.

According to police, a witness stated she observed Johnson "sitting in the back of the store." Police say the witness stated that Johnson "took a knife out of her purse and ran it across her neck to threaten me."

Investigators say the witness also stated that Johnson went to the restaurant's front door and began to lock it. The witness then stated that Johnson began to move toward the register, where she tried to grab the drawer in an effort to steal money.

At the same time, the Jeffersonville Assistant Police Chief, who was off-duty, was in the restaurant's drive thru, when a call about the incident was sent out.

According to official police records, the officer entered the restaurant through a side door and saw Johnson allegedly holding two knives in her hands. Investigators say the assistant chief ordered Johnson to drop the knives. Police say she followed the order and was taken into custody.

Johnson is being held at the Clark County Jail.

She is charged with armed robbery, intimidating with a deadly weapon and public intoxication.
