LEXINGTON, Ky. (WDRB) -- Authorities are increasing security measures during basketball games at UK's Rupp Arena.

Fans who visit the arena will experience security changes, beginning with Wednesday's game against EKU.

UK's Chief of Police Joe Monroe says the security increase is due to recent terrorist attacks.

The changes, which will last throughout the 2015-16 season, will include requesting that fans remove their coats before approaching security. Anyone who wears baggy or bulky clothing may also be required to undergo additional screening.

All bags may be inspected. Backpacks are not allowed, as well as flasks, selfie sticks, e-cigarettes and artificial noise makers.

Monroe says authorities are requesting that people be patient and arrive early as the new procedures are put into effect.
