Ky. State Police: Sheriff's officer shoots and kills man in Grayson County

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky State Police say an officer has shot and killed a suspect in Grayson County.

Authorities have not released the name of the man who died, nor the names of the officers involved in the incident. That information is scheduled to take place Thursday morning.

Kentucky State Police spokesperson Tpr. Jeff Gregory says around 1:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, two officers with the Grayson County Sheriff's Office responded to a call about a domestic disturbance in the 4000 block of St. Paul Road, northeast of Leitchfield.

Officers say a man and woman were both inside the home and she's the one who called 911.

KSP says a shot was also fired inside the home before the officers arrived.

State police say a man carrying a handgun approached the officers at the end of a driveway and did not drop his gun when asked to do so. That's when the sheriff's officer fired several shots killing the man.

That officer is now on paid leave and will return when he's ready.

"Obviously that's a traumatic situation, it's an unfortunate situation, and like any human being he's going through a roller coaster of emotions," said Grayson County Chief Deputy Corey Knochel. "And he may be ready to come back in a month, it may take longer than that, this is a very sad unfortunate situation. It's an aspect of law-enforcement that we don't like, unfortunately this is the society that we live in and sometimes these things happen."

Authorities say no one else was hurt. An autopsy is pending.

St. Paul Road was shut down for more than seven hours as investigators created a 3-D scan of the crime scene.
