Super Bowl champion, Louisville native returns to his hometown Friday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A three-time Super Bowl champion was back in his hometown Friday to say thanks to the local high school that launched his career.

Joe Jacoby is a 1977 graduate of Western High School.

He went on to play for U of L and in the NFL, winning three Super Bowl rings with the Washington Redskins in the 1980s and 90s.

Super Bowl legends like Jacoby are making trips across the country as part of an NFL initiative. 

"It's nice what the NFL is doing, acknowledging guys in high schools from all around the country for what they did for the athletes," Jacoby said.

Jacoby gave Western's principal an autographed golden football. 

The school is also eligible for a $5,000 NFL grant for its athletic program.
