LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Blue Santa is hitting the streets of Louisville with a wad of cash.

The Louisville Metro Police Foundation kicked off a campaign Monday morning to giveaway $10,000 over four days $50 at a time.

The random acts of kindness began before dawn at locations like downtown gas stations and Kosair Children's Hospital and moved on to the University of Louisville.

We spoke with Officer Holly Hogan who explained the reason for the cash giveaways.

"We are out here handing out $50 at random," Hogan said. We've partnered with the Louisville Metro Police Foundation and we're out here to make people's Christmas a little sweeter."

Hogan explained that the board members "actually put up their own money."

The Louisville Metro police Foundation is no stranger to charity. The group is known for its Shop with a Cop program, but wanted to do more.

We watched as three U of L students were each given $50.

"This is definitely awesome," said one student who said he is feeling pretty lucky.

The next stop was the Kids Center for Pediatric Therapies, where one little guy was rewarded for his hard work in the therapy program.

The foundation plans to continue the "Blue Santa" campaign through Thursday.

To receive the free money, you just have to be in the right place at the right time.
