LANE | Cats and Cards Both Climb in Weekly Poll

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Michigan State is still number one while UK and U of L both made modest moves in the weekly Associated Press Men's College Basketball poll.

The Spartans got all but one of the 65 first-place votes while remaining in the top spot for the second straight week.  2nd-ranked Kansas received the other first-place vote.  Kentucky is up one spot to fourth after home wins over Eastern Kentucky and Arizona State.  The 9-1 Wildcats are just behind 7-0 Oklahoma and just ahead of 9-0 Iowa State in the top five.

Kentucky Freshman Jamal Murray was honored as SEC Freshman of the Week.  The 6'4" guard from Kitchener, Ontario averaged 16.5 points, 5 rebounds and 4.5 assists in the two victories.  He is the first Wildcat to make at least one three-pointer in each of his first ten collegiate games.

Louisville moved up three spots to 19th in this week's poll.  The Cardinals are 7-1 after an 86-53 rout of Eastern Michigan last Saturday.  Their average margin of victory in six home wins is 38 points, with the smallest margin coming in a 28-point win over North Florida.

U of L has two more home games this week, Wednesday at 7:00 against Kennesaw State and Saturday at Noon against Western Kentucky.

Kentucky has a 3:30 start Saturday against Ohio State at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn.
