Bevin: Schools will front tuition for guard members

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A short-term solution to a funding shortfall in the Kentucky National Guard tuition assistance program has been found.

Gov. Matt Bevin says Kentucky university and community college presidents have agreed to admit National Guard members until the state can reimburse the schools for their tuition.

Universities and community colleges across the state will continue to admit National Guard members until the state can reimburse the schools for their tuition.

Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin said the program is $1 million to $2 million short.

Last week, the Guard said it had to deny almost 700 members funds for the spring semester. Bevin and his administration will look to add funding for the program to the budget for the upcoming session.
